Nominations

It's like herding cats trying to get you guys to make a decision. People have objected to the three proposals and so we are going to open it up for nominations. You have until Sunday night to make 2 nominations per family. Failure to make a nomination by then and you surrender your chance to nominate. Feel free to explain what we will do where ever you nominate and why you think it would be a good place to go. No one can nominate West Yellowstone, Mexico or Lake Powell (those boats have sailed).

Monday we will post the three choices for vote. You have until Saturday night to vote and the winner will be announced on Sunday. Voting will be anonymous. E-mail your votes to kirkhaysart@mac.com. Failure to vote by the deadline surrenders your vote. To avoid the Tammy v. Kyle controversy, each spouse gets a vote, but they have to each e-mail separately--no I vote for my spouse stuff!!

Life is short--lets try not to do something we've done before. It's a big world, lets go explore it.

I was actually hoping for Yellowstone myself, but because we can't pick that I would pick a vacation at the Grand Tetons.. I am including the link to their website for pricing options and a whole list of activities. I would like to point out the merits of my selection to the judging body. First and foremost I would like to point out the flexibility of my selection from accommodations, at the lodge, a cabin at Jenny Lake (if its good enough for the Clintons, sure i'm in) , to Coulter bay cabins, tents,rv spaces, everyone can slumber at their own comfort level. I would also like to point out the wide selection of activities from doing nothing to shopping at Gucci in Jackson, in between those extremes are horseback riding, boat tours, white water rafting, as well as being able to take trips up to Yellowstone and outside of the park. Secondarily, it is relatively close for most of the family's (except mine of course, but I want to RV across the country and stop at the Great Ball of Twine etc etc on the way). In closing I would submit that the flexibility of accomodations, activities, dining arrangements make my choice the only logical one.

Hey, I don't know what Kyle told you, but he did tell me he wanted to go to Mexico, so if he's changing his mind along the way, it's not my fault. Ask him anyway, does he ever look at this blog site? No. I do! So since I'm the only one looking, I should be able to do the answering! Right?
Just kidding. I'm sure I can e-mail Kirk a response, but I think you'll have to call Kyle on the phone if you want to know his opinion.

Thanks for all the effort! Tammy

Lezlee didn't read the rules right. You post your nominations here for everyone to see. Then we vote anonymously later.

Here is my proposal--a Cruise! With the exception of mom and dad, none of the rest of us have ever done one before. And a vacation should be about doing something new and something you can't just do on a weekend drive.

The first reason I think this is a good idea is it keeps us all together. We're all on the same boat, so we don't have the problem we had with Disneyland where we hardly saw each other.

Second, it provides flexibility. Moni can't get around very much (a problem with the more outdoor activities that will require a lot of driving, walking etc), Tammy and Lezlee like to relax and read so they can do just that. The kids want to do kid activities so they can do that on the boat--free movie theaters, game rooms, on-board rock-climbing etc. (all free) or they can swim with dolphins, ride horses, drive ATVs, go whale watching, etc. Dad, Kyle, Ken, Nate and I want to go deep sea fishing and so we can ($139 if we fish for marlin). So we have options to make everyone happy but each day we also end up together.

Third, its cheap. Room, food, entertainment and taxes are about $70 per day per person for a 7-day cruise. That's significantly cheaper than renting a cabin, houseboat etc. If we went with a 7-day cruise the per person price is between $449 and $549 depending if you want an interior room or an ocean view room with a balcony. For a 3 day cruise its $299 to $499 per person. That includes all food etc.

The ship will leave LA. A 7-day trip would include Puerta Vallerta, Mazatlan and Cabo San Lucas. A 4-day trip would include LA, Sana Barbara and Ensenda. And a 3 day trip LA and Ensenda.

Best times for this trip would be Spring or Fall.

I am making one more suggestion. What about the Alabama Gulf Coast? It is beautiful there. We could rent out a bed and breakfast for the entire family. Spend 4-5 days on the beaches then maybe head up north and let mom and dad take us through the area of their mission.

I like Ken's idea of the Teton's. I loved the villa on the Mexico trip. It was great to all be in the same house. I have found a great property in Park City that would have a house we can all share, a swimming pool, hot tubs, ATV rentals and trails, and fishing. http://www.vacationrentals.com/vacation-rentals/45571.html
So my vote is Mountains in Utah or the Tetons where we can all stay in the same house.

I prefer the Tetons.

I have a great idea for everyone to think about. But first and formost I am using Monica's computer since I am in Utah. Around the second week of Aug. There is alot of things to do in burley, ID. Water Skying, Fair and rodeo, swimming at the hot springs, the carnival, and of course if we move into our new house you can all come and see. We have a barbacue. Even though there is a lot of activities to participate in there is a lot of site seeing in the small town of Albion, and city of rocks. There is great fishing areas at the snake river or lake cleveland for those who love to fish. Albion just rebuilt the college campus and of course they have awesome activities for the kids as well as lots of rooms to stay. I would love to have everyone experience where I grew up. I promise you will have a great time.

Mom is still up at the family reunion and doesn't have the ability to post this evening. She was able to get a large 6 bedroom cabin with a loft in Colorado, the only cost for the cabin will be utilities because a family member from the Watterson side is letting us use it. The Wattersons had a family reunion there a few years ago and it is supose to be very nice. Each room has a washer/dryer several beds and large bathrooms. There is also a large kitchen and dinning room as well as many atractions in the area. Seeing that I haven't been there myself I'm probably not doing it justice but mom should be able to post more tomorrow. It is about 2 hours from Denver to give you a little bit of an idea about distence they said it was 7hrs from Salt Lake.

This sounds great for my vote.
